I’m an archivist and oral historian. I combine archival and public history methods to record human experiences, preserve knowledge for future generations, and inspire people through creative media.

I’m a founding partner of Bright Archives, an independent archival production house. We connect archival preservation with the power of creative media, helping our clients safeguard valuable historical records while bringing them to life through dynamic storytelling.

Previously, I served on the faculty at Carnegie Mellon University, where I was the founding Director of the Oral History Program, Lead Archivist for the Robotics Project, and Archivist in the University Archives. My experience also includes working with Carnegie Museum of Art, the University of Pittsburgh, the Heinz History Center, and various education and cultural heritage organizations. I specialize in complex histories and materials, with my work exploring diverse topics such as experimental film, punk culture, computer science, artificial intelligence, architecture, higher education, and folklore. My recent work looked at the research ecosystem of robotics and illustrated that well-designed archival practices can illuminate a field of scientific inquiry.

I have an MA in Public History from Duquesne University, and I’m a Certified Archivist (CA) and Digital Archives Specialist (DAS). I’m also an active member of the Society of American Archivists and the Oral History Association, where I’m chair of the Membership Committee. When I’m not working, you can find me gardening, backpacking, skiing, rafting, and enjoying nature with my wonderful husband and two dogs.
